Disease State FAQ's
ARTHRITIS / NEUROPATHY / PAIN
Medi-Thrift has developed a topical cream for Arthritis, Neuropathy, and Pain that works extremely well. Topical creams and gels on the market at present block only one receptor on nerve fibers that send pain messages to the brain. ANP cream blocks eleven different receptors on nerve fibers.
The use of multiple agents concomitantly with different mechanisms of action is reported to increase efficacy and decrease adverse drug reactions. ANP is a compound formulated by Medi-Thrift that blocks multiple receptor sites. The theory is rather simple, BLOCKING MULTIPLE RECEPTORS PRODUCES MORE POSITIVE RESULTS THAN BLOCKING ONLY ONE RECEPTOR.
Why Hormone Replacement Therapy Helps Prevent Alzheimer's Disease
One of the greatest benefits of hormone replacement therapy is a positive effect on preventing the loss of mental function. You may be able to delay or prevent Alzheimer’s disease by increasing estrogen and testosterone levels. Men have more testosterone than women; however, they produce a small amount of estrogens. And vice-versa, women produce more estrogens than men; however, they produce small amounts of testosterone. With aging, our bodies produce fewer amounts of estrogens and testosterone. In response to these low levels, there is an increase in the amount of luetizing hormone produced. The luetizing hormone is trying to get the glands to produce more hormones. The problem is it also increases the amount of beta-amyloid which in turn increases the number of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles.
There is also a relationship between oxidative stress and Alzheimer’s disease. Anti-oxidantssuch as:
Poly-Resveratrol, DHA, Pomegranate, Lipoic Acid, Curcumin are beneficial as anti-oxidants in preventing amyloid plaques from forming. LUMA is probably one of the best nutritional supplements on the market that helps prevent plaque formation.
Exercise is probably the most important factor in preventing Alzheimer’s disease. Thirty minutes three or four times a week can have a major beneficial effect. In addition to hormone replacement, see the recipe for lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease

Fibrocystic Breast Disease
A customer asked me if iodine would be appropriate to take for Fibrocystic Breast Disease. Anyone with this issue should read Dr. David Brownstein’s book Iodine Why you need it, Why you can’t live without it. Dr. John R. Lee states the cause of Fibrocystic breasts is estrogen dominance. Iodine works well for breast health because it makes breast cells less sensitive to estrogen. It detoxifies toxic halogens—bromide, fluoride, and chlorine—from the body. It ’s important that your body flush out these harmful elements: one study found that breast cancer patients had double the bromide levels compared to non-cancer patients. Iodine improves fibrocystic breast disease. In clinical research, approximately 70 percent of patients experienced relief of pain and reduction in abnormal tissue with iodine supplementation. In patients with mastalgia (breast pain), at least 50 percent of the women had significant reductions in breast pain after taking 6mg of iodine each day. In another study, 98 percent of women receiving iodine treatment was pain-free by the study’s end, and 72 percent had improvements in breast tissue. Caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine are known as methylxanthines. These promote overproduction within breast tissues of cellular products, such as fibrous tissue and cyst fluid, linked to Fibrocystic Breast Disease. In one study, limiting sources of methyl-xanthines (coffee, tea, cola, chocolate, and caffeinated medications) resulted in improvement in 97.5 percent of the twenty-eight who limited their consumption. Those who continue with little change in their methylxanthine consumption showed little improvement. Stress is another factor that may be an issue.
Dr. John R. Lee noted that some of his patients that used progesterone cream during two weeks before menses, fibrocystic breasts revert to normal within 2-3 months.

Gall Bladder Removed And Digestive Issues
Recently a customer who had her gall bladder removed and was having an issue with digestion asked about supplements for digestive issues.
First, I will give a brief discussion of the cause of her issues. The gall bladder stores bile which is essentially soap. When fatty foods leave the stomach to enter the small intestine, the gall bladder releases bile to break down the fats (emulsification), so they can be absorbed. If fatty foods are incompletely digested and enter the large intestine major problems occur. The undigested food particles are food for bad bacteria in the colon, and the bad bacteria form lactic acid and irritate the colon.
Biotics Research suggests the following:
Consider eliminating hydrogenated fats and oils, increase raw and fresh oils. Eliminate refined carbohydrates, alcohol, processed foods, fried food, dairy products, gluten containing grains and caffeine. Drink eight glasses of water daily. Eat at least one serving daily for raw/grated beets covered with the juice of one-half of a lemon and two tablespoons of raw, unprocessed flax seed oil. Avoid lettuce and food in the cabbage family (broccoli, cabbage, kale, etc.), until biliary function normalizes. Rule out food allergies.
Supplement to consider:
1] Beta-Plus will help emulsify fats. Take this supplement when you eat a fatty meal.
2] Digestive Enzymes like Hydrozyme, PanXymePh, All-Zyme, Xymozyme

Is Smoking Marijuana Dangerous
Marijuana smoke contains up to 70% more carcinogenic ingredients than cigarette smoke, and as such may increase the risk for lung cancer and head and neck cancer.7Of course chronic smoking can increase the risk for symptoms of chronic bronchitis.7 Regular smoking of three to four marijuana cigarettes per day is reported to produce as many symptoms as an average of 22 tobacco cigarettes per day, and comparable airway histological effects as 20 tobacco cigarettes per day. The use of marijuana can cause dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and a characteristic reddening of the eyes. Chronic use can cause apathy, impaired memory, sexual dysfunction, and abnormal menstruation, and has been associated with several cases of an unusual pattern of bullous emphysema.4,16 Regular use of marijuana in middle-aged persons has been associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction.32 Ischemic stroke has also been associated with cannabis use, even in young cannabis users.17 Pulmonary effects such as a cough and early morning sputum production are common.18The risk of lung cancer is not known, but cellular dysplasia in the lung has been noted in cannabis smokers.18 More recently, marijuana use has been possibly linked to testicular cancer in men and an increased risk of psychosis. Intoxicating doses of marijuana impair reaction time, motor coordination, and visual perception which can impact a patient’s ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. It is recommended that patients on marijuana wait at least four hours after inhalation or six hours after an oral dose before driving.36 This should extend to eight hours if euphoria occurs by either route.4,36 Depending on the dose, impairment can last for over 24 hours and can be aggravated with the consumption of other CNS depressants.
In addition, marijuana can also produce panic reactions, hallucinations, flashbacks, depression, and other emotional disturbances. Anxiety is positively related to cannabis use.33 Acute cannabis use can trigger anxiety and panic attacks whereas high doses of cannabis can worsen existing anxiety.34,35 It should be noted that acute cognitive changes may be undesirable for individuals who are using marijuana for therapeutic purposes and that these effects are dose-related and can often be controlled by reducing the “dose.”21
Long-term use of marijuana can cause cognitive impairment that lasts longer than the period of acute intoxication. Cognitive impairment develops slowly and worsens as the years of marijuana use increase, becoming clinically significant after about two decades of use.4 Youth who smoke cannabis are at greater risk than older adults for cannabis-related psychosocial harm, including suicidal ideation, illicit drug use, cannabis use disorder, and long-term cognitive impairment.43,44 Marijuana in those under 25 years is not advised.36
A more recently recognized syndrome known as cannabinoid hyperemesis has been reported in the literature. Cannabinoid hyperemesis typically develops after a few years of use and with weekly use or more.22 Patients report severe cyclic nausea and vomiting and abdominal pain and find relief with hot baths or showers. When marijuana use is discontinued, resolution of symptoms gradually occurs, usually over days to a week.22-2
Medical marijuana is typically smoked, inhaled, eaten, or applied topically. Vaporizing is considered the safest route for using medical marijuana.7 Vaporizers are different from water pipes (e.g., bongs). Vaporizers for “herbal mixtures or blends” heat the marijuana to produce vapor without causing combustion. They are available commercially in a variety of sizes, costs, etc.
Medial marijuana has been used for: Appetite loss, Cancer-associated anorexia, Chronic pain, Multiple sclerosis, Nausea and vomiting, and Glaucoma.
Marijuana is said to have high abuse potential.4 However, its ability to produce dependence is less significant than that associated with either alcohol or nicotine, or some drugs such as diazepam, morphine, and phenobarbital.21 About 10% of regular marijuana users become addicted.21 Experts point out that the addiction potential may actually be even less when marijuana is used for medical purposes, as is the case with some other drugs that have addiction potential.21
The DEA (U.S.) points out that there is legal medical marijuana, in the form of dronabinol. Dronabinol (Marinol; U.S. only), or synthetic THC, is a Schedule III controlled substance in the U.S.27 It’s indicated in the U.S. for the treatment of anorexia associated with weight loss in patients with AIDS, and for nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conventional antiemetic treatments.27
Nabilone (Cesamet) is another synthetic cannabinoid that has an indication for use in patients with nausea associated with chemotherapy that is refractory to other antiemetics.28,29 Cesamet is a Schedule II controlled substance in both the U.S. and Canada.28,29
Sativex buccal spray, made from Cannabis sativa extracts, is approved in Canada and is being studied for various indications in the U.S. In Canada, it’s indicated for the relief of neuropathic pain and spasticity in adults with multiple sclerosis, and as an adjunctive treatment for pain in adult patients with advanced cancer.30
Save marijuana as a last resort for treating medical conditions. Avoid the use of medical marijuana as a first-line agent for conditions which have therapies that are better supported and possibly better tolerated.

Organisms in the gastrointestinal tract are referred to as “gut microbiome.” Microbes, bacteria, fungi, and parasites play a role in helping the body metabolize foods, absorb nutrients, prevent pathogenic colonization, and more. Intestinal dysbiosis is a condition in which the bacteria in your gut are out of balance, and pathogenic (bad) bacteria begin to dominate, creating symptoms of digestive disturbance. This often happens when antibiotics are taken. Antibiotics often kill the beneficial organisms and leave food for the bad (pathogenic) organisms to grow. Probiotics are thought to act by blocking colonization of the gut by bad bacteria. Prebiotics are food for probiotics.
